Infrastructure Support Engineer

My client is the largest company of its kind within the UK with a huge online presence.

They are currently expanding and are looking to grow their IT department and have a couple of key roles vacant.

This role is an Infrastructure Support Engineer role based within their Windows infrastructure department and they are looking for a senior Infrastructure Engineer with a strong and broad experience of Windows Servers.

You will be involved in planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimising various types of virtualisation, server, storage and network hardware, software and communication links.

As an Infrastructure Support Engineer you will be responsible for;

●Providing support and improving capabilities in the fields of connectivity, virtualisation, server software, hardware, messaging, storage, networking and firewall configuration.
●Implementing technology to provide highly available infrastructure with appropriate backups, recovery, monitoring, alerting and self-healing
●Network Management, including VLAN design and management, load balancer and firewall installation, configuration and management. (Sophos firewalls, Kemp load balancers)
●Microsoft Active Directory and sharepoint administration, management and maintenance
●Administration of Windows and Linux operating systems, including patch management and anti-virus software
●VM setup and management of hyper-v and Xenserver software
●Responsible for ongoing capacity management
●Ensure system availability targets are met through capacity, business continuity and disaster recovery planning, design, implementation and management
●Act as an escalation point for IT service desk, business users and executive directors
●Provide detailed documentation or reports on issues, projects and new initiatives
●Ownership of high profile incidents and problems through to resolution
●Assist 1st/2nd line support in resolving end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion

You will already have worked in a similar Infrastructure Support Engineer / Senior IT Support role and will have most of the following experience;

●Extensive experience in IT infrastructure design, build and support
●Extremely broad knowledge of most Windows operating systems with good Active Director (AD).
●Network hardware – router, switch, cabling infrastructure and firewall experience
●LAN/WAN architecture, design and communication protocols
●Strong understanding of common Internet protocols and applications such as SMTP, DNS, NTP, SFTP, HTTP, SSH, SNMP etc.
●Extensive hands on support experience of Microsoft Server 2012/16, Windows 7/10.
●SQL Server 08/12/16.
●Maintenance and administration of PABX and call centre technologies
●Office 365 administration
●Backup and replication software installation, configuration and management skills
●Anti-virus, anti-malware and security related software management
●Advanced Microsoft Active Directory administration and management skills
●ITIL based Operations Management experience
●Have a clear understanding or Role Based Access Control and securing server infrastructure
●Excellent hands on knowledge installing, managing and using remote access tools and software clients
●Set-up and maintenance of Monitoring solutions (e.g. PRTG, Zabbix, Nagios)
●Understanding of IT Security principles
●Hands on experience of Hyper-V, XenServer, Veeam (preferable)
●Netapp Administration to OnTap 8.1.2-7 mode and Oracle SnapManager (preferable).
●Linux Server Operating System Administration
●Automation scripting – powershell, ansible, terraform (preferable)

All of the above is not necessary but you will need to have at least 5 years experience in a similar InfrastructureSupport Engineer role with some of the above experience.

You will be reporting directly to the Head of IT and will act as the companies ‘Infrastructure’ and ‘Windows’ guru.
